Who Uses the Archives?

Our patrons include researchers, history buffs, genealogists, land developers, educators, writers and anyone with interest in the who, what, when, where and why of Athabasca and area’s past. Staff and finding aids are available to help with your research and answer your questions. The guestbook has entries from around the world­­—come in and add your name.

At the Archives You Can
  • Examine Athabasca newspapers since 1908 on microfilm
  • Access the area’s homestead records on microfilm
  • Look through the photo collection
  • Look through the newspaper clipping file
  • Reminisce with Edwin Parr yearbooks
  • Browse through the collection of reference books and books by local authors
  • See Athabasca’s first printing press
  • View a large display of Athabasca Clay Products ceramics and other artifacts
  • View paintings by local artists
  • Explore an index of births and marriages from early newspapers
  • Research the obituaries, and
  • Ask any question you have about the people, places and times of the area.

Donations to the Archives
Athabasca Archives is always happy to consider donations which are of historical significance to the Town and County. Items of interest are:
Photographs
  • People who were or are pioneers in their field, business people, professionals, educators, religious leaders and community leaders
  • Businesses, buildings or unusual homes, and
  • Events, celebrations, disasters, accidents, or acts of nature which helped shape our community.
Documents or papers
  • Diaries or correspondence which describes the life and times in the region
  • Historical records of homesteading, local organizations or businesses
  • Maps, plans and official documents
  • Local and regional programs or events
  • Manuscripts by local authors; published or unpublished, and
  • Memoirs or reminiscences.
Media
  • Recorded audio/video interviews, occasions and events, on
  • VHS tapes, cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs or other media.
  • Athabasca Archives is able to digitize cassettes, VHS tapes and LPs or 45s.
Artifacts
  • Homesteading tools, business items, Athabasca Clay Products ceramics, and works of art by people from the region.
Athabasca Archives has limited space to acquire artifacts but please do consider giving us refusal of any items you think would be of interest. The archivist will evaluate possible donations with donors and discuss whether they are appropriate or relevant and the implications of making a donation to the Archives.
           Cash donations to Athabasca Archives are always welcome. Thank you for your support and patronage!
